Apparantly, according to some new yardstick - and I'm not sure how trustworthy it is - the right amount of salary one oughta be commanding annually shd not be lower than one's age multiplied by US$1,000 (S$1,600).
Which means every year, u need to see a raise of approximately S$134 on ur monthly income.

So this officially makes me a member of "an emerging class of the new poor".
