Welcome to the World, Baby Girl

My niece was born when my orchids were in bloom.
And the father believes that she's gonna grow into a fair girl 'cos her skin's so red.
My parents, both of whom do not speak Mandarin, are having difficulties pronouncing her name Qi En, which my sis had vehemently insisted doesn't have a dialect translation. Apparently, it's the trend these days. Parents give their kids only hanyu pinyin names sans the dialect equivalent. Yet to me, that seemed a 'lil odd 'cos it has never struck me as a choice in the first place. Picking a Chinese name - now that's a choice. But for any one character that one chooses, there will be a certain phonetic in every dialect to pronounce it. So depending on your dialect group, that's basically how your dialect name is derieved, no?
Suffice to say, unless one doesn't pick a Chinese name at all, I dun see how one can deny the existence of the dialect version of it.
Anyhow, my sis is now considering giving her baby an English name, even though she wasn't too keen on it the last time the topic came up. Megan was mentioned, but her hubby didn't like the sound of it.
Thus the search continues.
